AIDS - 25 years on...

The 16th international AIDS conference is underway in Toronto, Canada. Over 24,000 delegates from 170 countries are expected to attend the five day event.

It is now 25 years since doctors in the USA began investigating a cluster of pneumonia cases in gay men. Today, 38.6 million people are estimated to be living with the virus.

Some 4,500 scientific abstracts will be presented over the five-day conference. The AIDS conference international collaborative blog provides a useful access point for news and views.

Insight Africa's situation can be found in the Botswanan village of Nata blog. Currently, nearly 50% of all pregnant women in Nata are HIV positive. Australian HIV positive blogger Jon Willis provides a different perspective.
